Lego Build – Death Star – Bag 1.3

Sorry for the delay folks, I'm having some issues with my images, and a lot of other distractions.  So I've either lost or didn't take the bag number photo for this bag.  It was a smaller set, mostly details for the first tier of rooms.

Some more Alderaan space debris

Rigging, and garbage for the compactor.  The red nub on the top pulls out drawing the walls in.

Lifter/Crane for the cargo bay, and cargo elevator

Who blinked?

Lego Build – Death Star – Bag 1.2

Lego Alderaan horrifying fate to become Lego Death Star
Box 1, Bag 2

As each section builds up its purpose becomes more clear, and some other brand cameos occur

Starting to look like a door at the back?

Hmmm okay, now I get it, this is the trash compactor, so the compactor monster needed to have a look at his new digs.  The wall swings freely.

Some cargo bay, with some sort of crane or elevator starting to form.

The bridge across this chasm just isn't getting built, its like you might need to find some other way across.  Also that is Anna's birthday cake from Frozen Fever, can you blame the Angel for wanting time lock some of that.

Second wall is in, garbage monster starting to feel at home.

Sliding door added at the back, it is probably magnetically sealed, supporting walls added to the outside.

Guns and a... a... a... turn table?

Detailing around the shaft, and more walls.  One of the nice things, is that even though symmetry in the wall builds came up from time to time, it wasn't like the Helicarrier where you did the same thing 4 times.

Red 1x1 stud is the pull handle for the garbage compactor door, what else this chamber is for is beyond me.  The next level supports are almost complete.

Lego Build – Death Star – Bag 1.1

So where to start, I wasn't really sure how the boxes were going to break down, so I opened up the first, and saw it was sub-divided into 3 sets of bags.
Just a few bags

Box 1, Bag 1, or 1.1

Starting with the mini-figs makes my table feel like some sort of horrid accident occurred.

A whole cast of characters

Grand Mof Tarkin, so Storm Troopers and the Death Star Laser Operators

One of these must be the droid I was looking for

Han and Luke in Disguise (Shhh)

The Emperor, his posse, Vader, and Episode VI Luke.  For some reason Vader has an inanimate carbon rod (see the image of the group shot) I don't know why...

Episode VI Heroes

We start from the very bottom

Some cargo and some starting structure, the basic quadrant layout begins here, and the central shaft.

My workstation, taking up half the dinning room table.  The lazy-suzan made construction a lot easier.

First quadrant, minimal components to help give context as you go.

This made no sense as I build it, but the plates were needed much later for the the free movement of another piece.

Third Quadrant

This quadrant remains open

This symmetry of the odd deck plating.

Bars added to create ring to complete round appearance

Lego Build – Death Star – Prebuild

Well I'm back again for a photo blog of the build of a somewhat epic Lego set.  This is mostly for my own amusement, but I have this avenue to share, so I will.

So for Christmas this year my lovely wife gave me the Death Star, which apparently is going out of production this year (for possible replacement with a  new Ultimate Collector Series version (UCS))  I apparently was talking about that just before the holidays, totally unaware of what she had got, and much to her consternation.

So without much ado, here begins my holiday project, the construction of the Death Star.

One epic sized box

Something for scale would have helped here, but the manual could hurt someone.

Inside the set was neatly broken down into sub-boxes, you know because each one has more parts than a normal Lego set.

There was also a Sith cat in the package, might just have been mine, not sure.
